I’ve had heard of the obstacle course races before, but I thought: ‘Who wants to go voluntary running through the mud and get all dirty?’ So when some guys of my bootcamp squad said they wanted to join a race in the neighborhood I was not really the first to say yes. But after some convincing of them I finally joined. It was the Tough Ten Miles race in Oldenzaal (NLD) in February so freezing cold!
However, while I was running, I thought: ‘He this is actually going really good!’ I like the fact that it is so variable and tough and I just had the energy to keep going. In the end I’d past half of the bootcamp guys and I’ve finished 3rd in the women category. And not unimportant: there was a hot tub at the finish line! So that’s how I’ve got the OCR virus.
And while I signed up the next year for the Strongmanrun I saw you could even qualify for the World Championships. So I convinced a friend to train for the qualification and if we both were qualified, we should go to Ohio. We both did and the rest is history, that made really a difference for me to step up my training game.
