The last week of September was the second race in the OCR series of Strong Viking at beer haven Warstein. It was a new place for the OCR series, so we were curious what it would bring us!
The start of the elite wave was already early in the morning and due to a long traveling distance, the departure was already the day before. Titia took off with a quick start, which seems to be in advantage because the first obstacle was rope climbing and a cue is quickly formed if you are somewhere in the middle of the group.
Titia: ‘For a long period, till 4km, I managed to maintain the second spot, but I knew I couldn’t hold that spot for long with the strong competitors in this field who were starting a bit in the back. And indeed one by one some strong girls overtook me as I struggled to maintain my pace. At one point I figured out my nutrition was lost somewhere on the track, which wasn’t helping! However, a nice 7th place in the top 10 elite was the best I could do and I am still very proud!’

This was the last OCR series race of 2019, the coming races are starting in March 2020. Titia is adding: ‘First the focus is of course on the World Championships in 2 weeks in London. I don’t expect any big results but I am really aiming to keep my wristband, which is going to be a challenge. After that, finally a resting period is well deserved!’
